HOW MANY TOMATOES??????

(Black Krim - our favorite in 2009)

Steve commented he did not realize there were so many different varieties of tomatoes. Well we were astounded when Michael came across this website - Tomato Fest. What is even more astonishing is that the 600 varieties are Heirlooms only. Have fun looking!!!

SPRING!!

I found this hiding outside the house, under the dryer vent. That doesn't sound very romantic or pretty but it is still a little treasure. I would love any feedback on what it might be.

EAT RIGHT OFF THE VINE - THAT'S THE QUESTION

The little cherry tomatoes are like candy and kids and adults walk through the rows enjoying every bite.

This year we have a return from the most popular one from 2009 - the Sweetie. We brought back the Sweet Pea Currant (kicking and screaming) because I thought they were hard to grow and harvest because they are teenie tiny, but Dave Dahlen BEGGED us to plant them again. He took some home and added to a rice dish and insisted they were the best tomato he had ever eaten. So thank Dave for the Sweet Pea Currant.

We added: Brownberry, Green Grape, and Hartman's Gooseberry.

The cherry's are prolific and this year we won't plant 50 of each variety!!!!

THE BEGINNING

In the beginning, which was February of 2009, there wasn't a Sol 'n Tyne. But by the end of August there was. Thanks go to the River Cottage series and Hugh and to Evan for turning us on to another way of life.

With 1200 tomato plants quickly pushing their way to the light the 2010 growing season is already taking on a life of it's own.

So we decided to create this blog to help keep friends, family, and customers up-to-date on what's happening on the farmette in the valley on Wells Creek. As often as we can we will add updates on produce available, interesting stories, and Gus sightings (hopefully not). Recipe suggestions for in season produce, photos, and other odd tidbits. We are also linking this to Facebook. So welcome aboard and thank you for looking in on us and feel free to email solntyne@yahoo.com with any questions.
